Understanding the Differences Between WSET Level 1 and Level 2 in Wines

WSET Level 1 in Wines

WSET Level 1 is designed as an introductory course for those beginning their wine journey. No prior knowledge is required, making it an ideal starting point for those with little to no experience with wine. The course aims to provide a hands-on introduction to the world of wine, exploring main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste.

In our Level 1 course at the Florida Wine Academy, you will learn how to understand and describe wine using the WSET’s systematic approach. Topics include the basic principles of wine making, an overview of the principal white and red grape varieties, and fundamental wine and food pairing techniques. The course culminates in a short multiple-choice exam.

WSET Level 2 in Wines

WSET Level 2 is a more in-depth exploration of wines, targeted at those who wish to broaden their wine knowledge and tasting skills. Although Level 1 is not a prerequisite for Level 2, some foundational knowledge of wine can be beneficial.

In our Level 2 course, you’ll gain detailed knowledge of the principal regions, grape varieties, and wine styles around the world. You’ll also deepen your tasting skills and learn to evaluate and describe wines with confidence, using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®. This level includes a more extensive examination, including multiple-choice questions and a blind tasting assessment.

Both courses are offered in-person in our Miami location or online with provided wine kits. The flexibility allows you to choose the most convenient way for you to learn.
