Become a Certified Champagne Expert!

The Champagne Specialist course is a complete training course with a tasting of 14 Champagnes and a series of workshops that leads to recognised certification by the Comité Champagne. 

This qualification is intended for both professionals and enthusiasts, from sommeliers to WSET students. You'll learn how to:

  • Understand and interpret Champagne labels
  • Know how to describe and assess Champagne wines
  • Know how to store and serve Champagne in optimum conditions
  • Be able to recommend a Champagne by ascertaining the customer’s expectations and needs and drawing up an appropriate range of suggestions
  • Know how to pair food and Champagne
  • You will also receive an Official Comité Champagne certification upon passing the final assessment

Class Format

This is an intensive, in-person class that takes place over two days. This course is taught by Alessandra Esteves DipWSET, MW student, official Champagne educator.

Assessment

Assessment is by a closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions, two written short answer questions, and a tasting of two Champagnes. The assessment will take place on the second Saturday of the class, at the end of the day. A total mark of 55% is required to achieve a pass. Candidates with an average score of at least 55% will be awarded the official "Champagne Specialist: understanding and recommending Champagne" certificate.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your registration you can do so for a $35 administrative fee. Making changes to your registration with 15 business days of the course start date will result in an administrative fee of $250.

Entry Requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for this course, the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, or an equivalent level of experience, is recommended for registration. You must be at least 21 years of age to attend the course and to participate in any alcohol tasting. 

Prior Learning

Students should dedicate a minimum of 7 hours to the following private study activities before attending the in person course:

  1. Complete the Online Training E-learning Level 2 or 3 (www.champagne-mooc.com).
  2. Thorough reading of the Understanding and recommending Champagne training booklet.

Dates

Saturday, September 12th and Sunday, September 13th 2026 from 9 - 4pm (day 1) and 9 - 5pm (day 2) at 305 Wines (8233 South Dixie Highway, Miami FL, 33143). 

What Happens after Course Registration

  1. Immediately: You will receive an automated email order confirmation after registering for a course.
  2. Within two weeks of your order: Florida Wine Academy will ship the training booklet to the mailing address provided upon registration. You will receive a tracking number once this has shipped.
  3. One month prior to the course start date: Florida Wine Academy will send you a welcome email containing more information about the course.
